Welcome to my homepage. I currently hold an assistant professor position at the Economics Department of the University of Bonn. My primary research interest lies in the organization of production in an economy, identifying potential mis-allocation and dynamic consequences touching issues in development economics and applied micro theory, in particular matching, contracts, and organization.

I have published research on occupational choice and assignment markets, when institutional or micro-economic imperfections (for instance limitations to instruments or information available to contracting parties) have adverse effects on the economy wide allocation (e.g. in terms of education investments and mismatch on capital and labor markets).

Teaching

In the winter term 2012/2013 I am teaching the course Development Economics at the Bachelor level. The course presents current theories of poverty and underdevelopment, for instance those emphasizing links to financial market frictions, inequality, health, political economy, and institutions, as well as their empirical support. Policies that seek to address these issues will be considered, with a special emphasis on empirical evaluation of their efficacy. Classes will be taught in English. The syllabus is available for download.

Teaching

In the summer term 2012 I taught the course Public Economic Theory at the Master level. The first part of the course focuses on public good provision, presenting the classical theoretical results and some empirical examples of mechanisms for public good provision. The second half of the lecture will focus on the classical results in optimal taxation and consider empirical applications. The syllabus is available for download.

Conference "Gaming Incentive Systems" in June

In June I organized a conference on the topic "Gaming Incentive Systems: Theory and Evidence". It took place at the GSI on 10.6.11 and 11.6.11 and was funded by the Hausdorff Center and the Department of Economics. The scientific committee are Laurent Bouton (BU), Phillippe Jehiel (PSE/UCL), Meg Meyer (Nuffield College, Oxford), and Andy Newman (BU).
