Title: The Private Supply of a Public Good
Abstract: In this paper, we study the supply of a public good by a monopolistic producer and analyse its welfare properties. In the more than thirty years since the publication of Samuelson´s "The Pure Theory of Public Expenditure" (1954), a lot of word has been done on the incentive problems connected with the revelation of consumer preferences for public goods. However, little seems to have been done on the supply of public goods in different institutional settings. We begin to fill this gap by analysing the implications of profit maximization as a basis for such supply decisions.
