Title: The Interplay between Statistics and Computing in Data Analysis
Abstract: The personal computer is becoming a widely used tool for data analysis. I describe some minimum requirements for a data analysis machine and discuss the theoretical objects (machine data structures) in order to efficiently organize the interplay between statistics and computing. The ideas are shown to be implementable on a desktop system like an IBM AT or PS/2. The particular implementation discussed here is called XploRe and is written in TURBO PASCAL 5.0.
