Project B4:
Experimental Economics

Director: Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. em. Reinhard Selten

In experimental economics the behavior of subjects in economic decision situations is analyzed. In the research unit B4 mainly experiments on games and markets are performed. The experimental results are compared with results drawn from the theoretic analysis based on the assumption of perfect rationality. The purpose is to develop descriptive theories based on the experimental results which can explain the deviations from normative theory.

The long-term objective is to find structural elements which are common to the descriptive theories developed for special classes of models and experimental situations. This could contribute to a general theory of bounded rationality.
